I'm not big on Valentine's Day but I think this year calls for being gentle and loving with myself. There is a lot of insecurities and inner critic dialogue that crops up when the world is becoming too much. When I feel ready to take a leap, I can also find 1,001 reasons to play small. This year seems different and I can feel it in my bones.

Of course I cannot do this alone. I have tremendous support from @robbobbs who is relentless in his belief in me. I wish I could be the same to myself. But for now, he is what helps me move forward everyday.

Because of this I want to share one of my favourite poems by Carol Ann Duffy, called Valentine. 💌

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful

Take it.

When I first came across the Ideal Week worksheet, I thought it was silly, a bunch of wishful thinking, and an impossible task. Little did I know that it will come 'round again for me. This time, I see the brilliance in it and the powerful exercise of setting our intentions.

When I set-up what my Ideal Week looked like, it wasn't just a simple exercise of plotting down activities. It needed a careful examination of what and where I wanted to spend my 168 hours. And it also questioned WHY I wanted to spend my time on those things.
.
While my Ideal Week is constantly shifting; and that's perhaps the beauty of it, I am now running my day, instead of letting my day run me. I know my mornings are better spent in moving meditation and making sure my routine is set. It's a process and one I love optimising and building for.

This year, I'm trying to create my night time routine. One of the things I'm working on is getting enough sleep and the only way I can do that is by getting to bed on time. This year kicked off with meal planning and meal prepping (yes, I found out they're two different things 🤦🏻‍♀️) and while it's easy to think it's for health (it is!) the motivation is mostly driven by money savings.

You see, 2017 was the year I started to consistently track my spending through @youneedabudget (I love them and will tell anyone about how life-changing their product is), and at the end of 2018 I was curious to find out where I'm spending most of my money. I learned I am spending an inordinate amount of my hard-earned cash on food, and my sporadic bouts of meal prepping also resulted in a lot of food wastage.

With this kind of clarity of where my money goes, I knew I could challenge myself to save more, eat better, and reduce food waste. It's only been three weeks but I can see my clothes become looser, and my pockets heavier. 🤑

When you look at your camera roll and the photos you've taken, what usually catches your eye? I noticed a few years ago that there were more women who took shots of their feet and of where they stood. While men, on the other hand, took shots of the sky, the buildings and mountains above them.

When I look at my camera roll, I notice I like to take photos of details versus taking in a scene. More close-up shots, tighter portraits, and nondescript figures in a corner of a room. I'm sure our perspectives and what we choose to document with our camera lens, says a lot about who we are. What do you think yours tells you about yourself?

The Fool in tarot always reminds me of new beginnings and leaping into the unknown. A new year always brings this fresh energy to start a new journey or to leap into something we've always wanted to do. I noticed lately that old themes from 2012-2013 are coming back again into my life. Perhaps as unfinished business, a second chance, or that 'right now' may be better timing than the first instance. I wonder if this isn't just me and if you're feeling it too? Have you got something you had put on ice a few years ago that you're thinking of revisiting this year?
